She played the game at the party with five others. They loved it. They just glanced at a card and sized up what they needed to do...they all knew about word searches. Cards get distributed to everyone, so play is simultaneous. On each card, there are three words (three animals, three planets, three similar words, etc) hidden inside a grid of letters. Every time you find a word, you circle it. For this, you use a sheet of see-through paper, which is handy so the cards don't get marked up. Because this is a race as well, it's all about who can find their words first. And it's funny watching the level of excitement - and with it the noise volume - rise as someone gets closer and closer to winning...kids can't usually keep it to themselves after they find a word, so you know how well everyone is doing by watching and listening.I joined in for one round, and really enjoyed it! The concept is simple and fun. All kids are given a card with letters arranged in a grid. At the top of the card are three words which players are instructed to find. Each player gets a different card, so the kids are looking for different words (and cheating is impossible....a good thing!). The first player to find all three words on their card -- horizontally, vertically or diagonally - wins the round. A really fun component to this game is that kids get to use tracing paper. You know how kids LOVE tracing paper! Players take the card, put it under a pad of tracing paper, and start circling away (this way the card is not marked up and it is preserved for future games!). The kids especially like flipping over the card to match up the answers they've found on their tracing paper. So we have 3 elements kids enjoy -- searching, tracing and matching.
